Located within the charming confines of Southport’s Wayfarers Arcade, Pudding & Pie offers a delightful café and restaurant experience that perfectly blends classic comfort fare with a warm, inviting atmosphere. This beloved local spot is known for its hearty breakfasts, scrumptious cakes, and an array of satisfying lunch options that cater to a wide range of tastes.
Whether you choose to sit inside the cosy, lively interior or enjoy the vintage arcade ambiance outside, the dining environment feels welcoming and relaxed—ideal for a casual meal or a comforting coffee break. The menu is thoughtfully crafted, featuring everything from fluffy omelettes and traditional fish and chips to indulgent treats like rich carrot cake and melt-in-the-mouth chocolate and orange cake. Coffee lovers will appreciate expertly brewed large lattes and cappuccinos, while the hot chocolate, topped with clouds of cream and marshmallows, promises a comforting sweet escape.
Signature dishes like the club sandwich, fajitas de pollo, and classic cheese & onion toastie showcase a perfect balance of fresh ingredients and satisfying flavours. For those seeking lighter fare or something special, the Nicoise salad and prawn Marie Rose sandwich highlight the kitchen's fresh approach to favourite British café staples. The side options, from thick-cut chips to hand-battered onion rings and inventive loaded or “dirty” fries, add a delightful crunch and depth to any meal.
Customer experiences reflect the café’s friendly, attentive service and delicious, well-priced menu. As Kirsty Mac happily notes, the food is “amazing” with fast, courteous service that makes you feel right at home. Ergun Sahillioglu commends the staff’s genuine warmth and the inclusive range of vegetarian snacks, though he wittily requests a swap from the retro 80s lift music. Regular visitors like Duncan Pemberton appreciate the consistency of quality in coffee and cakes, even as they keep an eye on price adjustments. Peter Yeo’s review captures the essence of the venue well—a lively, buzzing spot with decent food and good service, nestled in an arcade with its own historic charm.
While some reviews highlight areas for improvement, such as refreshing the décor or sprucing up the bathrooms, the heart of Pudding & Pie lies in its friendly team and the comforting, wholesome menu. It’s a place that invites you to linger over a latte and a slice of cake, or enjoy a satisfying lunch that feels thoughtfully prepared.
For anyone exploring Southport, Pudding & Pie stands out as a reliable, characterful café that delivers on flavour and friendliness with every visit—a true local gem in the historic Wayfarers Arcade.
Found this place by chance in Wayfairers Arcade. Lovely restaurant/cafe, you can sit out in the arcade or inside. The service was excellent, very quick. The food was amazing I had a burger and my mum had a prawn sandwich. Very reasonably priced too. I would highly recommend. Thanks x
Wonderful cafe run by wonderful staff. All very friendly, polite and plenty of genuine smiles. Good selection of snacks for vegetarians as well as none. The only draw back is the lift music from the early 80s. Dreadful then, dreadful now. Clean toilets. I would highly recommend.
My partner and I have been here probably 8 - 10 times over recent months. coffee and cake are nice but feel the prices are creeping up from our first visit that does not match the quality anymore. Thursday (11 December) paid nearly £20 for it (and that apparently is with 10% off with a voucher) As I said , nice place but ime not sure the prices are worth it visiting now when places like Costa for a coffee / cake are £14 ish.
We popped into Pudding and Pie for a spot of lunch (there were three of us grown-ups). It's a shame to see the arcade it's housed in looking a bit worse for wear, but fear not, the cafe itself was lively and buzzing. The food was decent and the service was good too. However, the cafe could do with a bit of sprucing up and the lavatories, while clean, were not the most pleasant. Despite having three loo roll holders, there wasn't a scrap of toilet paper in sight! Overall, it was a jolly good experience and we would certainly recommend giving Pudding and Pie a visit. Just don't forget to bring your own bog roll!
